Well … the Dems Won

I have to say … we Republicans have brought this on ourselves. And here’s why … those touting the name Republican aren’t really conservative. A house divided against itself will not stand – and so it has indeed fallen in this campaign. Many within our party, for quite a while now, have not been truly conservative, but have used the label Republican simply as a way to get votes and maintain political control and power, all the while possessing blue-blood in many instances (as Rush put it). A majority of Republicans have become so political that they have lost what true conservativism was all about to begin with, taking “conservative” stances on abortion, the economy, of which I agree with them on, and yet really not accomplishing much in these areas. Bush has been full steam ahead concerning the war on terror, making bullheaded decisions that have not worked out. And yet while being so gung-ho about the war on terror (which I am also gung-ho for), he’s left the back door wide opened and now we have a massive illegal immigration problem. And on top of that he is more liberal on immigration reform than many liberals, promoting amnesty even! It makes no sense. Are you conservative or not? Are you actually concerned about the war on terror or just your legacy with this war? And yet this type of thought is what has characterized our party as a whole, now bringing about its demise, at least for now. And with this type of duplicity, it is no wonder we have now lost both the house and senate. Republicans really need to return to true conservativism and abandon what our party has become: fake, political, and dishonorable. Many Republican politicians have used “conservative values” as a smokescreen and I think people are tired of it.

Republicans must now regroup and go back to the drawing board. And ultimately, conservatives, particularly us Gospel-believing, Christ-loving conservatives need to apply the Gospel to politics once again and actually live the Gospel out. I think this win for the Democrats will be a good thing for the humbling of the religious-right and our Pharisaism. We need it, all of us. When we see people that we think are more sinful than us, take heed lest we fall too. We are not better than anyone else, we are all in a state of depravity that we in and of ourselves can do nothing about and we are all desperately in need of God’s grace in the granting of repentance and faith to turn from our own wickedness and instead turn to Christ, the author and founder of our faith. He and He alone, through the preaching of the Word and living out of the Gospel, is the only one who can bring about change in the hearts of people. Just attempting to make people moral by changing policies will not change people’s hearts. Only Christ can do this. The disciples asked Christ after the rich man ran away from Christ, “Who then can be saved?” And Christ’s response was, “With man this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.” The Holy Spirit alone is the only agent that can produce change in any of us. We must preach the Gospel in both word and deed. This is what the Republican party needs more than anything else: the Gospel.

Awful Weatherman

This is just incredible … I mean you have to at least give him credit for perseverance …

Ted Haggard – My State As a Sinner and the Right Response

http://www.challies.com/archives/002181.php

This blog post on Challies.com really struck a chord with me, because I so often am guilty of this very thing, that is looking at others sin and inherently thinking I’m better or that as a preacher (in this case) they must not understand the Gospel. I had a blog post on here that said something to that effect pertaining to this and felt convicted about what I said and removed it. All I have to say to myself is “Take heed lest you fall …” What an arrogant fool I am for ever thinking this. I’m not better. I’m a sinner and if God so permitted, He could allow me to pursue my sin and it could take me places I never thought I would go! How wicked am I? I cannot even begin to fathom how deep the roots of sin go into my heart. Only God knows and it is only by His grace that I am held back from pursuing the wicked desires of my heart. I am thoroughly depraved, that is sin has corrupted every area of my life. I’m as much of a sinner as Ted Haggard. We are all in the same state as Haggard (many of us likely worse, including me). Oh God have mercy on me and my wayward heart that turns from You! Keep me from sin and keep me from pursuing it! Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus Christ, Father, sanctifying me in the truth! He is sufficient …

Tomato: Hacked Firmware Released for Linksys WRT54G/GS v1-4

www.polarcloud.com/tomato
I figured I’d give this firmware version a whirl on this WRT54GS I obtained, and from what I can tell, it rocks. It uses the linux kernel version 2.4.2 and takes up very little room in memory once loaded. In fact, I was able to turn off a ton of other services running in the background, which makes it boot and run faster it seems. After putting this firewall in place and getting Tomato running, I noticed a considerable difference in the flow of data across the net, like it’s processing frames and packets in a faster manner. As usual with hacked firmware for Linksys products, you can also increase the broadcast power level for the wireless side. Since I have an access point already though, I turned it off. The port-forwarding feature with Tomato is enhanced in a great way. With the standard Linksys firmware, both the internal and external ports must match. So if you want to forward external port 5900 to internal port 70, you cannot do that, which means you have to change internal port 70 to 5900, or change the external port 5900 to 70 so they match. But with Tomato, you can forward whatever external port you want, to any internal port. Very nice. Also, one really cool feature they added is the ability to check in and check out port-forwards. So I can create multiple port-forwarding rules for the same external port but have each rule forward to different ports internally, and then switch the rules in and out of place on the fly. Sweetness. Another really cool feature about this software is that once you are logged into the web interface, it has a section that displays a graph for the past five hours of incoming and outgoing traffic (displayed below). Also, the web interface looks totally different than the traditional Linksys colors and layout, which is a nice change. Anyway, check it out … and as usual when reporting on hacked firmware, I’m not responsible for what happens to you, your equipment, or any other negative things that transpire as a result of you installing this software. If you brick your equipment, well, I’m just sorry for you. If you get hacked because you increased the broadcast power level and did not properly secure your access point, it is your own fault. This hacked firmware is for the WRT54G/GS version 1-4 only! Keep that in mind and make sure you know what version you have, otherwise, you will brick it.
