The Church of Oprah

(FYI, if you’re coming from a politically liberal-leaning point of view, please ignore the caption at the beginning and end of this video … that’s totally irrelevant to the main issue at hand: Oprah’s deceit. In addition, I realize there is a book mentioned apparently directly linking Obama to the occult and New Age movement at the end of the video. I have done no investigation of these claims or the book and would liken such a title to far-right fear mongering of some kind … though certainly the actual proposal of establishing a Department of Peace does sound eerily familiar to the Ministry of Love in Orwell’s classic 1984, a place in the story in which the main character, Winston, is tortured into submission to “love” for Big Brother, but I seriously digress from the real topic at hand šŸ™‚ )

This is the absolute essence of false religion, the antithesis of Christianity, the antithesis of the Gospel. In this thinking, You are the starting point for all that is in your world and the world that is out there, as it were. How utterly vain. This kind of thinking, left unchecked, will eat our culture from the inside out, because the ultimate end, the ultimate goal of the type of person this creates is a sociopath. A society of sociopaths? Frightening prospect, just on a worldly level, let alone the abandonment and suppression of the Gospel.

In an age of almost complete abandonment of any intellectual rigor in critically analyzing our positions and the positions of others, we believers must swim upstream and start seriously thinking through, with Scripture as our guide, the implications of our faith in a postmodern world where everything has been made subjective, a mere taste preference, including religion and morality.

We all, as Gospel-believing Christians, are up against some serious intellectual challenges in the 21st century. I’m not talking about being a philosopher or scholar or theologian here, just being on guard with the Sword of the Word of God against the tactics of Satan to destroy and injure the church, as it was prophesied would happen in Revelation in these last days. We should expect persecution for the truths we hold in the Gospel, because Jesus Himself said we should.

Jesus says to us, “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matthew 10:16) Wise as serpents, as in just as crafty and on guard against incoming attacks on our faith, ready to respond, and yet innocent as doves, as in just as loving, peaceful, self-sacrificing, involved in culture, and our outward actions free from accusation. It is time for the church in America to wake up from her slumber, pursue holiness with all her might, and get to studying the Word of God, apologetics and theology, not for the sake of studying itself, but for the sake of the Gospel and the glory of God, loving the Lord God with all our minds as well as all our hearts.

Any believer with even a cursory reading of the Scriptures must see that Oprah is promoting pure false religion here, the very false religion that Satan started in the Garden of Eden when he proposed this question to Eve: “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” (Genesis 3:1) Since then, false religion after false religion has been started from this basic premise: “Did God actually say ___?”

Is Oprah a Gospel-believing Christian? As far as one can tell by a confession in these and many other videos, she is not. She has outright denied the Gospel. But someone may say, “Earlier in her life she was a believer though!?” The sad thing is the Scriptures say that anyone who walks away from the Gospel and the one and only “faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3) they never had saving faith to begin with.

The strong warnings of the book of Jude strikingly apply here, as well as the warnings in 1 John, Hebrews and many quotes from Jesus Himself in the Gospels. She has openly denied that Jesus is the only way to the Father, something Jesus claimed of Himself in John 14:6 which is very problematic for her and other New Age religious preachers and teachers. She has also assisted in the promotion of ideologies that twist God’s Word in order to suit this idolatrous religion. All of this is emphatically clear, and as believers, we must lovingly oppose such nonsense that posits as a redefinition and “addition” to historic Christianity that Satan seeks to use to ruin the Gospel proclamation; all this in order that people would be saved and reconciled to God forever.
